South Boston duplex has long deck
In the heart of South Boston’s City Point neighborhood is a four–story, Victorian-style building that houses two lovely condominiums.
It was constructed just five years ago but looks as though it has been part of the fabric of the neighborhood for 100 years. Its double bayfront exterior has clapboards and scalloped shingles – but they are manmade – and the color scheme comprises two shades of pale green, accented with bright white trim.
The first floor duplex, Unit 1, is on the market, and Paula Maher of the Seaport Realty Group has listed it at $670,000.
Steps lead up to the recessed entry, and inside the foyer on the right is the door to Unit 1. Straight ahead are the stairs to the second duplex.
The main living space of Unit 1 is on the upper floor, and on the first floor are two bedrooms at the front of the house. Both have three-window bays, and the larger bedroom has a second exposure with two more windows.
The owners have created a guest room/home office in this space, which includes a large double closet.
The rooms have oak flooring, crown molding and abundant recessed lighting.
The developer, Christopher Walsh, pays close attention to details and adds architectural elements that are often found in more expensive residences, said Maher. He has developed other condos on the eastside, she said.
One of the bedrooms is currently used as an office, but there is plenty of room to include a day bed as well.
Outside the bedrooms is a second foyer with direct access to the outdoors and to the garage, where there are two deeded parking spaces reserved for the owners of this residence.
Off the foyer are a large laundry with side-by–side Maytag washer and dryer and a big coat closet.
There is a full bath on this level too that features marble tile and a combination tub/shower.
A set of stairs ascends to the entertainment level opens into a spacious living room. Straight ahead is a gas fireplace with a marble surround that is angled in a corner.
A set of French doors opens onto a deck that runs the width of the building and is perfect for summer entertaining. It is equipped with recessed lighting and a ceiling fan to capture summer breezes.
A wide doorway, framed by a pair of columns, leads to a formal dining room, which is completely paneled and takes on the look of a library. Another set of French doors to the deck has custom-made adjustable shutters that match the woodwork. A chandelier hangs from a ceiling medallion.
The paneled dining room is one of the unusual features of this residence.
The chef’s kitchen is an absolute delight with its varied colored brown and gold granite counters and custom built cherry cabinetry. One of the cabinets holds a mini-pantry; another contains a spice drawer within another drawer.
Surrounding the kitchen is a unique, diamond-tiled backsplash accented with a band of tiny mosaics. The sink is placed in front of the window, and above it is a pendant light. Other illumination comes from a period-style ceiling light.
The high-end stainless steel appliances are KitchenAid, including the four–burner gas range refrigerator and microwave, which has its own separate shelf above the counter.
The master bedroom suite occupies the front portion of the unit. A hallway flanked by double closets leads into a sumptuous master bath.
The kitchen is equipped with high-end stainless steel appliances, abundant granite counters and cherry cabinets.
The oversized Jacuzzi tub is set into a marble deck with a matte finish. It matches the tiled floor, which is polished. Above the Jacuzzi is the triple bay.
A large piece of granite tops the vanity, which holds two undermount sinks, with Kohler fixtures. Above them are tall mirrors. The marble-tiled shower is enclosed in glass.
Next to this bath is the master bedroom, a large room with two exposures. Next to the bay windows is a door to a small balcony, which overlooks P Street. Diagonally opposite this corner of the room is another gas fireplace. This one has a black marble surround.
This home has central air conditioning and forced hot air heat by gas. There is a zone for each floor, said Maher.
